Housing & Dining

New College of Florida places a strong value on its residential campus environment.  Five new residence halls, opened in the  fall of 2007, join the Pei, Dort and Goldstein dorms, near Hamilton Center, Palm Court and other recreational facilities. Together, this fulfills our vision of a student village where academics and campus life seemlessly intertwine and "learning occurs around the clock."

The Pei dorms, designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei, accommodate 252 students in double residence hall rooms with private bathrooms.  The outdoor Palm Court around which the rooms are grouped is a focus of New College student life.  B-Dorm houses 32 students in single bedrooms with common lounges and bathrooms. It is popular because of the community spirit that develops among its residents. The nearby Dort and Goldstein Residence Halls feature suite style apartments with four single bedrooms around a  living room, kitchenette and two baths.

Located east of the Pei dorms, four new reisdences feature lodge-style accomodations, with individual rooms and shared common spaces. West of Pei, the fifth and largest has a spacious central courtyard and urban style accomodations with indivdual living units.  Two of the new dorms have been named for longtime New College supporters, Ulla Searing and Rhoda Pritzker.

All five new dorms are built in general accordance with requirements of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System of design practices and construction to reduce negative environmental effects of building and improve occupant health and well-being.

Our Meal Plan offers a great deal of flexibility, since you buy "purchasing power" rather than specific meals. Cafeteria menus have selections for omnivores, vegetarians and vegans. The staff works closely with students who have special dietary needs or allergies. Meals are served in the student union, Hamilton Center, where there is also deli-style sandwich shop in which offers snacks, beverages and a small selection of staple items.  The student run Four Winds Café, located on the bayfront campus, is a place for the meeting of the minds between students and facuty.  The popular gathering spot feature gourmet coffee and vegetarian cuisine.
