Emergency Services
Emergency ServicesIn some instances, you might need immediate assistance at a time when your therapist is not at the Counseling and Wellness Center or cannot return your call. These emergencies may involve suicidal or homicidal crisis, sexual assault or rape, domestic violence, deaths, serious accidents, or thoughts of committing dangerous acts.
If you find yourself requiring emergency services between 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, please contact the Center. At other times, for New College residents please contact a resident assistant (RA) or the campus police at (941) 487-4210. If for you live off-campus or are a USF student, visit the nearest Emergency Room and ask for the mental health professional on call. The emergency service is not a “crisis hotline.” Students who are emotionally distressed and simply need to talk to someone should come to the Center during regular office hours. Victim Advocate ProgramA Victim Advocate is available to victims of violence for support, crisis, intervention and referrals. To reach the advocate, simply page her at (941) 252-5156 and follow the instructions. She is available anytime someone is in need.
The Victim Advocate will assist by providing information, support and guidance in the following ways:
For more complete information see: Related Definitions. Police reports are strongly encouraged. However, reports are not required for information and referral assistance. Information shared with the Advocate is considered confidential and will go no further without permission from the individual involved. |
