Clubs & Activities

While New College students are devoted to their studies, they also know how to live fully. The free flow of spontaneous energy is evident in the eclectic nature of our clubs and organizations, and in the activities that enrich student life and build healthy bodies.

If you are drawn to the arts, you can sing in the New College chorus, work on the literary magazine, be in our theatrical productions, or join other students in planning the annual Festival of the Arts. If human service work touches your heart, you can hats for tiny patients at a cancer center, aid migrant workers, or volunteer at Head Start. If you want to educate young minds, join the Student Outreach in the Sciences program at local elementary schools, tutor at the Boys & Girls Club, or collect books for Africa. Check out all the student groups on campus for more information.

To stay in shape, you can tone your muscles at our professionally-managed indoor fitness center, swim in the pool or play racquetball. You can check out canoes and sailboats, or gear for camping and scuba diving. And while we don’t have competitive sports teams (our president likes to say that we have the “only undefeated football team in Florida”), we play soccer, basketball and Frisbee; we fence; we sail; and we move giant pawns around on our outdoor chessboard. For the traditional game, you can join the Passed Pawns chess club.

Outside campus, there are many activities to develop your mind, body and spirit. The greater Sarasota-Bradenton area is renowned for its thriving arts scene, white sand Gulf beaches and acres of protected wetlands and state parks.  Check out the links to the right for more information on what the area has to offer.
