NCF Campus Master Plan

In 2006, New College of Florida undertook its most ambitious re-visioning of the campus since the College’s inception in 1960.  With the help of internationally acclaimed urban planners Moule & Polyzoides, New College developed a forward looking master plan that envisions development of the campus out over the next 30 years.  Students, faculty and staff all played integral parts in development of the master plan, which was formally approved by the New College Board of Trustees on June 14, 2008.  The plan's bold new vision is environmentally progressive and will create a more seamless relationship between academics and residential life at the College.

The first project completed under the master plan was the opening of five new residence halls. The new buildings feature flat and tabled roots and high, timbered ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows in the public living rooms to make good use of natural Florida sunshine. All have been built in general accordance with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System to reduce negative environmental effects of buildings and improve occupant health and well-being.

Construction of the new residence halls has paved the way for renovation of the College’s historic I.M. Pei dorms and courtyards surrounding Palm Court, as well as major improvements to Hamilton Center, the student union also designed by Pei.

In spring 2009 we anticipate breaking ground on a new Academic Center on campus, and on the drawing board for 2010 or 2011 is a new Center for International and Area Studies to support enhanced programming in a field of study so vital in today’s global marketplace.
