Campus Photo Tour

Situated on 110 acres on Sarasota Bay, the New College campus blends handsome historical buildings with modern facilities that are both functional and elegant. Since 2000, the campus has undergone a remarkable transformation, including the construction of two state-of-the-art science buildings. A recent federal grant is helping establish a public archaeology research laboratory aimed at identifying and preserving southwest Florida heritage, as well as a Strategic Languages Resource Center on campus.

New College of Florida is located in the emerging University district, an area of higher education, culture and arts along North Tamiami Trail (U.S 41) that includes New College of Florida, University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, the Florida State University Ringling Center for the Cultural Arts and the Ringling School of Art and Design, along with area businesses and property owners.  We are just a few miles from downtown Sarasota and 50 miles from the City of Tampa.

Palmer Campus

The campus is divided into three distinct areas. The Palmer Campus, located between Tamiami Trail and the Sarasota Bay, is noted for its two historic Charles Ringling mansions, Cook and College Halls. This campus houses most of the College's administrative and faculty offices, including the Office of Admissions, located in Robertson Hall.  The Four Winds Café, the Heiser Natural Sciences Complex, the Pritzker Marine Biology Research Center, the Palmer Buildings, Hal C. Ball Anthropology Laboratory and Bon Seigneur House are all located here, as is The Keating Center, a 7,500 sq. ft., $1 million Mediterranean-style building which is the permanent home of New College Foundation, New College Alumnae/i Association and New College Library Association. The Jane Bancroft Cook Library is located on the eastern edge of the Palmer Campus, on Bay Shore Drive across from the historic arch and the pedestrian/bicyclist promenade that leads to the bay.

East Campus

Behind the library is a pedestrian bridge over US 41 linking the bayfront campus to the East Campus, the hub of student residential life.  Here you will find the I.M. Pei and the Letter dormitories as well as the Dallas & Elizabeth Dort, Ann & Alfred Goldstein, Ulla R. Searing and Rhoda Pritzker residence halls. Our student union, the Hamilton Center, is here as are the Hamilton Classrooms, the Harry Sudakoff Conference Center, the fitness center, pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, softball diamond and multi-purpose fields.

Caples Campus

Located west of Bay Shore Drive and south of the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, the Caples Campus is home to the Caples Fine Arts Complex. Further down Caples Drive and overlooking Sarasota Bay, the Ralph Caples Mansion is home to a number of faculty offices and seminar rooms.  The Environmental Studies Program is housed in the nearby Caples Carriage House.  A student run community garden and the New College Sailing Program can also be found on the Caples campus.
