New College Board of Trustees| | Colonel Walter L. "Mickey" Presha, Chairman of the New College Board, (USAR
Ret.), is the president and CEO of the Manatee County Rural Health
Services, Inc. His extensive involvement in South Florida includes his
service as president of the Police Athletic League Academy since its
inception, as well as chairman of the Board of Directors. Col. Presha
also served in the United States Army for 32 years, earning a
Distinguished Service Medal, a Bronze Star, a Silver Star, and a Purple
Heart among other prestigious awards. He received his bachelor’s degree
from Bethune-Cookman College in 1966, and his master’s degree from
Golden Gate University in 1978. Col. Presha is a resident of Palmetto.
Appointed by the Governor; term ends January 2011.
| | | Elaine M. Keating, Vice Chairman of the New College Board, is a local
philanthropist. She and her late husband, Ed Keating, and The Keating
Foundation have supported interests in numerous local arts, social
service, and educational initiatives. Ms. Keating is former president
of E. Mason, Inc., a financial services firm in the Midwest. In
addition to being a trustee of New College Foundation (1996-2006) where
she chaired the Student Activities Committee, she has held and
continues to hold seats on many other boards. Ms. Keating is a
graduate of Carleton College and a resident of Longboat Key. Appointed
by the Governor; term ends January 2011.
| | | Benjamin Brown, President of the New College Student Alliance, serves
as student representative on the Board of Trustees. Ben is a third-year
student concentrating in political science with interests in American
politics and political theory. He graduated from Pleasantville High
School in Westchester County, New York, where he was a member of the
Forensics and Debate team. Prior to his term as NCSA president, Ben’s
student government involvement included service on New College’s
Council of Academic Affairs and Student Academic Status Committee. The
Student Body President is a statutory member of the Board of Trustees.
Term ends December 31, 2008.
| | | Rev. Jerome Dupree, D.D., is the pastor of Koinonia Baptist Church. He
previously served as Mayor of Sarasota, as well as City Commissioner
for four years. Mr. Dupree has spent more than 30 years working to
improve education, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for
Children First, SCOPE and First Union Bank of Sarasota. He received his
bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida A&M University in
1957, and received a certificate in International Education from the
University of South Florida. Mr. Dupree is a resident of Sarasota.
Appointed by the Board of Governors; term ends January 2011.
| | | General Rolland V. Heiser is a former president of the New College
Foundation, in which capacity he served from 1979-2002, and a former
member of the Florida Board of Governors. During his tenure at the New
College Foundation, he helped bring more than $100 million to the New
College of Florida campus from 1980 to 2002. His 24 years at the
Foundation followed a highly successful 32-year career in the United
States Army including service in Korea and Vietnam, command of the 1st
Armored Division in Europe, and as Chief of Staff under Gen. Alexander
Haig for the U.S. European Command. Appointed by the Board of
Governors; term ends January 2010.

| Maj. General Raymond E. Mason, Jr. (U.S. Army Ret.), is Chairman of
the Columbus Truck and Equipment Company, Inc. and The Bode-Finn in
Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also a rancher in Manatee County, Florida. He
holds a B.S. degree from Ohio State University and has served on the
New College Foundation Board of Trustees since 1995. He is a resident
of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Osprey, Florida. Appointed by the Board of
Governors; term ends January 2010.
| | | Patrick McDonald, Ph.D., Chair of the Faculty, is Professor of
Mathematics at New College of Florida. He holds a B.S. and a M.S. from
Ohio State University and earned his Doctorate in Mathematics from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His areas of interest are
partial differential equations, micro-local analysis and geometry. He,
his wife Barbara and two small children live in Sarasota.
| | | Kenneth R. Misemer is an attorney with Allgood & Misemer, P.A. He
has been involved with the New College Foundation Board of Trustees
since 1977, and is the current Chairman of the Board. Mr. Misemer was
instrumental in founding New College’s Alumnae/i Association. He is a
trustee of the Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Board, and serves as
chairman. Mr. Misemer received his bachelor’s degree from New College
in 1968, attended Harvard Business School, and received his J. D. from
the University of Florida Law School in 1972. Mr. Misemer is a resident
of New Port Richey. Appointed by the Board of Governors; term ends
January 2011.
| | | J. Robert Peterson received his A.B. from the University of
Pennsylvania. He then served as Lieutenant in the Navy in World War II
and the Korean War, after which he received his J.D. from the
University of Pennsylvania and his LL.M. from New York University. He
served briefly as Assistant to the Dean of the University of
Pennsylvania Law School, after which he served for 33 years with the
United Parcel Service. He became Secretary, Senior Vice President and
Group Head and participated in the expansion of that company while he
coordinated the activities of law firms throughout the United States.
He is a philanthropist and has been a board member and actively engaged
in the work of many local and national charitable organizations as well
as the New College Foundation. Appointed by the Board of Governors;
term ends January 2013.
| | | Vicki Pearthree Raeburn, Ph.D., is the Senior Vice President of Data
and Operations at Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. She has been a member of
the Board of the New College Foundation for nine years. She taught at
Vassar College for six years, served as an Adjunct Professor at the
Stern School of Business at New York University, and is the former
president of Mergent, Inc. Dr. Raeburn received her bachelor’s degree
from New College in 1968 and her Ph.D. from Yale University in 1972.
Dr. Raeburn is a resident of Manhattan and Cold Spring, New York.
Appointed by the Governor; term ends January 2011.
| | | John W. Saputo is owner and president of Gold Coast Eagle Distributing of Sarasota and a highly decorated colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps (retired). He served with distinction during the Persian Gulf War and was awarded a bronze star with Combat V for valor in 1992. In 2004, he was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal by the U.S. Central Command for his service during Operation Iraqi Freedom. A third-generation beer wholesaler, Saputo’s business career has been as distinguished as his military service. He has been in the industry for more than 30 years and has served on various community boards, including Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and SunTrust Bank. His company currently serves more than 1,400 businesses in the Sarasota-Manatee area, employs 150 associates, and is involved with numerous local charitable events. Saputo graduated summa cum laude from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He is a resident of Longboat Key. Appointed by the Governor; term ends January 2013.
| | | Jane T. Smiley served 16 years as vice president of the Division of
Federated Department Stores for Burdines before her retirement. In her
desire to foster the arts in the public schools, she volunteered as
Vice President of the Sarasota Arts Council. She has also been
president of the New College Foundation Associates, and the Women’s
Resource Center of Sarasota County. Ms. Smiley received her bachelor’s
degree from Smith College in 1947. She is a resident of Sarasota.
