Dr. Pat Gilbert - Red Tide Lectures Sept 3rd, 2008
Dr. Glibert is an oceanographer whose work has centered on questions related to nutrient dynamics and algae. She has conducted research in coastal zones and oceans throughout the world and on September 3, 2008 will present her findings regarding a recent project focused on the coast of Florida.
At 2:00 p.m. Dr. Glibert will give a University Seminar titled: “Complexity in the relationship between eutrophication and harmful algal blooms”.
At 7:00 p.m. she will give a Public Seminar titled: “Global nutrient over-enrichment – what’s the relevance for Florida’s coast?”
Her current work is focused on the linkages between nutrient over-enrichment and harmful algal blooms (HABs), and how the amount and type of nutrients may be related to bloom proliferation.
Pat Glibert is a Professor at UMCES where she co-chairs both the U.S. National HAB committee and an international working group on land-based nutrient pollution and HABs. Although most of her work is in the Chesapeake Bay she has had recent projects off the coast of Kuwait, Australia, China, and Florida.
